Aon Center – Cloud Level
Chicago, IL USA
In 2017, the Aon Center was looking for opportunities to elevate its brand and heritage. This included the founding of an amenity center. The overall goal was to provide a welcoming space that would serve the building year round. It would support retention and leasing and offer hyper-local resources for tenants of the hard to reach building. To create a retreat 70 stories up, the Cloud Level concept borrows elements from the dune laden landscape of The Mitten State. Greens and other organic colors as well as casual materials such as wicker and wood plank are used. Accents such as red barn doors, waterside artwork, bright tiles and moss walls add Midwestern characteristics both coastal and inland. Within this framework, individual venues were developed and branded. The Peak Fitness Center brings the active outdoors inwards with panoramic views of the lake. The bright Remedy Café looks like a waterside pop-up with a sun room inspired lounge. The Soapbox Conference Center applies the same palette but in a formal environment. These unique venues were designed to feel distinct and separate but also connected and part of an overall amenity space, or retreat. Utilizing the core of the building made this possible as the elevator banks and corridors tie it all together and create a transitional experience from one venue to the next.
