When Burns & Wilcox was moving its Chicago office the mission was to update their brand standards across the organization, starting with the Chicago location. The idea was to create a modern and young environment that retained a certain level of professionalism. The firm was coming from a workplace that had wall-to-wall carpet and typical ceiling tile. In partnership with their inter-management group, critical items for the project were identified. These included incorporating the brand color but updating historic signage, modernizing the flooring among other finishes, shrinking workstations while promoting multi-use conference spaces, and allowing for freestanding areas.
The Chicago office of Burns & Wilcox works in teams. It was important to subtly segment team areas while making them visible to other parts of the firm and connected to communal areas. The corresponding private offices are glass fronted, and each area includes several unoccupied spaces to accommodate for the firm’s future growth.
Meeting room continue into the café area, which was designed to be less corporate and more of a casual area for socializing internally but also hosting outside guests. The glass of the three adjoining meeting rooms in the café can be opened to allow further connectivity and expanse within the social hub.
