In 2016, a legacy client of Gary Lee Partners presented a multi-city agreement. The law firm had plans to renovate their Denver, Indianapolis, and Minneapolis locations. Our team worked with an executive committee that was comprised of leadership from all three offices. The main points of discussion were around creating town hall meeting spaces as well as technology and lifestyle attributes that would improve the overall work environment across groups.

Minneapolis was the first project to break ground and involved two buildings: one occupied by mainly operational staff and the other for the attorney group. The ops team in Minneapolis is the largest of the firm’s locations, so the main consideration was creating a space that felt special and non conventional. Gary Lee Partners designed a large, double-high town hall to accommodate the massive floorplan, which included varied seating, private dining options, high-end coffee service and A/V integration. The message was “come alone or with a group” and “come for lunch, a client coffee, or for a large presentation.” The space is flexible and comfortable enough to accommodate it all.

Staff zips around on scooters to traverse the large layout. Concrete floors, wide corridors and exposed ceilings create a less formal space that is functional to how the operational teams move and communicate.

For the attorney group, Gary Lee Partners suggested the town hall concept be adjacent to the existing conference center. This way clients could be welcomed into the space, and it could be used throughout the day. The town hall is comprised of three rooms and provides high-end vending and comfortable seating. There are also visitor offices that can be reserved for traveling guests and colleagues.

Smaller collaboration rooms occupy the four corners of each floor. These include traditional meeting rooms, lounges, and more casual spaces for standing and moving about. These rooms further promote an already strong value of connectivity held by the firm. As such, each room and office is equipped with the appropriate technology for interoffice conferencing. These collaborative spaces included within the internal floor plan allow for more personalized, free conversation outside of the client-facing conference center.
